White Rhino – “Come Away” | HIP-HOP

The White Rhino is Julian Rhine, a high-octane rapper, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist born and raised in Brooklyn. Rhino’s music begins in hip-hop and takes you to a new, emerging genre—an undefined space occupied by stars such as Kid Cudi, B.o.B, and Kanye West. One important distinction: Rhino wrote and performed nearly the entirety of the infectious sounds and impeccable arrangements on his eponymous debut album.

SUBMISSIONS | Vol. 3

This is volume 3 of our submissions feature where we clean out the inbox and facebook links and throw up some posts from artists who contact us directly. Once again, some things are good while others are not so good but we always try to show some love. There are some familiar faces this week with mashup artists DJ Scoops, Doug Bogan and Mother Earth Remixes, so if you like what you hear be sure to sift back through the archives. And of course, we have some new songs from some artists you probably have never heard of (and neither have we!)

Scoops is a Dubstep/Electro Producer and DJ from Marist College who has worked/performed with Chris Webby, Mac Miller, Aziz, Mike Cantrell, Doug Bogan, Greg Golterman, Kinetics and One Love, Cam Meekins, Tim Gallo, and DEV.  My New album is coming out very soon.

“The World ‘Round” (SHM vs. Flo Rida) by Doug Bogan | MASHUP

Another mash of “Save The World” as it is living up to its hype of being one of the most popular/remade techno songs this year. Remember, Doug will also be at the same Mashup/Dubstep show we mentioned earlier in NYC on 6/16.

We posted a song with Jeff Blair in it earlier and he tipped us off to a new song of his he collaborated on.

“New July” by Adam K | HIP-HOP

Another frat rapper trying to make waves. Not a bad idea to rap over a sample to get noticed.

Up and coming college rapper out of the the suburbs of NJ. Adam K is a college freshman and has been making music since his junior year of high school. A must hear new college hip hop artist gaining fans and receiving positive feedback every day from blogs and websites all over the Northeast. Listen up because you’ll be hearing a lot more from this frat rapper in the future.

DJ 3LAU | MASHUP

DJ 3LAU (Justin Blau) is a Mashup/Remix and House producer currently attending Washington University in St. Louis. Hailing from Las Vegas, DJ 3LAU began his musical career as an aspiring indie singer/songwriter releasing a 4 track EP under the alias Glimpse. Since his first, mellowgazed album, Justin has been pursuing his interest in Electro and Progressive House since summer of 2010.

Inspired by his summer visit to Stockholm with native Swede Johan Olofsson, DJ 3LAU’s dream is to travel the world and perform for endless dancing crowds. With his persistence, and passion for music, he’s sure on his way.

“All Night Long” (LMFAO vs. Ellie Goulding vs. Mann vs. Darth & Vader)

Definitely my favorite one!

“Four In The Morning” by Jamie Drastik

After seeing this kids name I think I have a flyer of his sitting in my dresser drawer that someone handed to me at a Tinie Tempah show last winter. I always meant to look into who it was, but hey if it’s going to come to me…even better! I would post his bio but it’s 4 paragraphs long…so you can read it on his facebook page if you are interested.

I like the sample and the flow is good, I just wish he would have let the drums kick in and get a little crazy on it towards the end.

“The Guitar Chronicles, Pt. 1″ by Cliff Notez f/ DJ Ryseup

He is a 20 year Old junior at Wheaton College Mass from Boston Mass. This song is over an original beat done by Dj Ryseup. Definetly intellectual Hip Hop. His music brings me back to the 90s but still its something like i’ve never heard before. He keeps you wanting more. Artist is a poet and a rapper that brings a 90s feel to current hip hop.

Once again, I’m emptying out the inbox and giving you all a glimpse into what kinds of things I receive. There are some gems and some major flops. But if they are taking the time to send me their work, I’ll reciprocate and usually give them a post…even if they suck. And you never know, somebody out there might find something they like in here, I did with Doug Bogan last time!

“We R The World” (Ke$ha vs. Britney Spears vs. Fatman Scoop) by Doug Bogan

I featured Doug Bogan in our first e-mail submission post and was sooo impressed by this kid. Well I got this new mashup in the ol’ inbox and he kills it once again. Here’s what he had to say about it:

So I was thinking about how far afield I (may have seemed to have) strayed with some of my recent dubstep remixes, and went back to the musical drawing board for reconsideration. Don’t want to scare people off with music, you know.

SUBMISSIONS | Vol. 1

I decided to clear the inbox today and post all the submissions I’ve gotten lately. Rather than screening them, I am going to post them all….some good, some great, some BAD! You be the judge.

MASHUPS | Doug Bogan

“Over the past year-and-a-half, Doug has established himself as a mashup artist in the college music scene. What began as fraternity parties on campus at Bucknell University quickly evolved into high-intensity shows all over the Northeast, including opening spots for nationally-renowned artists such as Sam Adams, Chris Webby, Napalm, and The Dean’s List.”

Free Fallin’ Forever” (Tom Petty vs. Drake/Kanye West/Lil’ Wayne/Eminem)

When I first saw the title of this song I had sworn he just copied it from someone else. I know I have heard it before so I searched my iTunes for it. You know when you have random mashups and you never know who did them so you just say it’s by “Tom Petty” and call it a day? K, maybe that’s just me, but I found I had posted the song but had no DJ attached to it from last September! Oh, happy day!!!

“Our Caribou Song” (Taylor Swift vs. Tech N9ne)

This is an awesome combo!

“The Gifted Zone” (KiD CuDi vs. N.A.S.A./Kanye West)

POP | Sexyflexy (of the group 3oNe3)

“Sexyflexy is a student at the University of Missouri and is just starting out but teamed up with Titus Ramiz to make and awesome poppy song.”

1. They are using the word “awesome” very loosely I think…

2. Sexyflexy….REALLY??? There’s my nomination for worst name ever.
