This hip-hop duo out of Baltimore is making some great tracks and videos. Consisting of 23 year old Mick Marx and 25 year old Sur Jazz, these two guys recently released a really cool music video (see video below) for their track “Tonight.”
.
Here’s Beyond Modern’s story in detail:
The two halves behind the musical collective Beyond Modern were solo hip-hop artists when the duo first decided to fuse their talents in 2009. In 2010 the lyricist and aspiring audio engineer released The Definition: Epic, their first full-length album featuring original production under the moniker Sim-plex. The nascent success of these two young artists was a sound that augured something bigger, something inventive. That “something” emerged as Rebellion EP (2011), the duo’s first EP asBeyond Modern, pulling from a range of iconic influences old and new like the Neptunes, Miles Davis, Prince, and Sade. Beyond Modern recently released their second EP, The Beyond Modern EP on November 1st, 2012. The EP features an exciting bonus video to the single “Ride of Your Life,” directed by D.C.’s premiere video directing team 1st Impressions Studio that has worked with the likes of B.o.B., Wale, and T.I.
Often noted as a “breath of fresh air,” Beyond Modern approaches their art as just that. They win over diverse audiences at carefully curated events like Fader presents Vitaminwater Uncapped Live, D.C.’s first annual hip-hop + electronic music festival Trillectro, and H. St. Festival with their unique and memorable sound. “We want to create a legacy like those who have inspired our music. Art is lasting. It influences. So ultimately, we want to remain artists…and make people dance,” says Jazz. The result: a fresh take on hip-hop. The duo possesses the raw talent that cultivates beyond where modern music peaks to a sound that fuses genres and takes center to culture–fervent and unrestrained.
