After the release of the greatest hits album Believers Never Die – Greatest Hits, it was announced on November 20, 2009 that the band would go into an indefinite hiatus for the band members to “decompress” and focus on side projects.
On February 4, 2013, the band and Island Records officially announced that the band’s four-year hiatus was over, and that Fall Out Boy was to return with a new album, titled Save Rock and Roll and a headlining tour, released the same day as the announcement. The band played a comeback show in Chicago that night. The band said of their reformation “When we were kids the only thing that got us through most days was music. It’s why we started Fall Out Boy in the first place. This isn’t a reunion because we never broke up. We needed to plug back in and make some music that matters to us.”
